Helping connect communities across the city

SANTIAGO, CHILE — October 2026

Martinus Rail Pty Ltd has been awarded the track and overhead wiring (catenary) systems contract for Santiago Metro Line 9, a city-shaping program that will extend high-capacity public transport to nearly two million residents across eight municipalities and improve access to jobs, education and services.

Line 9 will extend approximately 27 kilometres through 19 stations and eight communes. The new line is expected to benefit around two million people, create six connections with the wider Metro network and reduce the journey between central Santiago and Puente Alto to approximately 35 minutes.

Martinus was selected through a competitive international tender run by Metro de Santiago. Martinus will supply and install the track and overhead wiring systems in the Line 9 tunnels and at the Talleres y Cocheras Línea 9 depot, under a separate 20-year maintenance contract for those systems.

Line 9 will draw on the capability Martinus has built in Chile since 2021 — established leadership, delivery teams, supplier relationships and operating systems — supported by the company's international experience delivering metro and rail projects and maintenance services across Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

The project is expected to create approximately 300 jobs in Chile and increase Martinus’s local workforce to a total of approximately 600 employees, supporting the continued development of Chilean rail capability and creating new opportunities for local professionals and suppliers.

This combination of established local capability and international metro experience positions Martinus to mobilise and deliver Line 9 with local accountability, technical depth and a long-term focus on asset performance.

The track and overhead wiring systems supply and installation contract forms part of Metro de Santiago's Line 9 project, whose total budget exceeds USD 2.7 billion.

“Line 9 will improve how communities across Santiago connect with jobs, education and essential services. Metro de Santiago’s trust in Martinus is a responsibility we take seriously. Our focus is to mobilise effectively and deliver safely, collaboratively and with a long-term focus on the performance of the railway,” said Martinus Group CEO Treaven Martinus.

“Our ability to deliver a program of this scale is supported by the operating model we have built across Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Chile,” said Ryan Baden, Chief Operating Officer of Martinus Group. “That model combines international metro and rail experience with the established Chilean team that will lead local delivery. Our focus is to mobilise effectively, work collaboratively and deliver safely to the standard Metro de Santiago expects.”

“Line 9 demonstrates Martinus’s capability across design verification, construction, systems integration and long-term maintenance. It will bring those disciplines together with the local leadership, people, suppliers and systems we have built in Chile since 2021, creating opportunities for Chilean businesses and strengthening capability that will support the railway over the long term,” said Cesar Retamal, General Manager Martinus Chile.

“This award is an important step in our long-term commitment to Chile. Our ambition is to support the country’s metro, freight, logistics and mining railways through multidisciplinary delivery and enduring local partnerships,” added Treaven Martinus.

Mobilisation is under way, supporting Metro de Santiago's phased openings.
